Rising Student`s win Apin Memorial Tournament

Rising Student`s Club emerged champions in the 3rd Apin Memorial Cricket Tournament, beating Union Sporting Club by 71 runs in the all-Cuttack final at SCB Medical College ground here today. A half-century each by Girija Rout and Sheshdeep Patra helped Rising Student`s registered the emphatic victory, which fetched them the top prize of Rs 30,000. Patra hit a run-a-ball 81 to pocket the man of the match prize of Rs 2,000.

Runners-up Union Sporting became richer by Rs 20,000, while Sanjeev Barik of Union Sporting received Rs 5,000 as the man of the tournament. Union Sporting medium-pacer Bipin Singh, who scalped four wickets in the final and Girija Rout, who remained unbeaten on 81, took home Rs 2,000 each as the best bowler and best batsman of the tournament respectively.

Earlier in the semifinals, Rising Student`s thrashed Mukteswar Cricket Club (Bhubaneswar) by eight wickets, while Union Sporting trounced Rameswar Sporting (Bhubaneswar) by 96 runs. Odisha Cricket Association secretary Asirbad Behera handed over the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function. Host Biswabharati Cricket Club president Biswajit Mohanty and secretary Soumitra Choudhury were present on the occasion.

BRIEF SCORE: Rising Student`s Club 246/9 in 50 overs (Girija Rout 81 n.o, Sheshdeep Patra 81, Bibhudutta Panda 28, Lagnajit Samal 22; Bipin Singh 4/46, Santosh Jena 2/52) beat Union Sporting 175/10 in 44.4 overs (Subit Biswal 45, Sukhbindar Singh 24; Deepak Behera 2/25, Bibhudutta Panda 2/26, Jayant Behera 2/36, Suryakant Pradhan 2/30).
